Whoaaaa amazing! I can’t fathom running that pace for those miles on desert terrain. Your 4:40 would be an impressive 50K time and you stretched it almost 6 miles past that! I’d love to hear why/how you stomached 360 cals/hr. That seems so high especially given your small size and high fitness. Huge congrats!
Thanks, Sarah! I'll have to do a longer post about fueling at some point. I've sat around 250-300 calories per hour for many years for my racing and training, but since switching to using Precision (I mostly used Spring gels previously), I've increased a little. I've also found it really convenient to take in the 90g/360 cal gels and they go down so well for me. It never actually feels like I'm eating that much, maybe because of their form/taste/texture. To me, athlete size doesn't seem to be a big differentiator in terms of how many calories a given athlete needs and/or eats, so while I definitely fall on the smaller end of the spectrum, I I find that a higher caloric intake per hour seems to keep my energy up, especially during high intensity efforts like this!
